The iOS app gives you three different ways to share a card, depending on who you're with and what they're using. They live in the same place but they're each suited to different situations.
Apple Wallet (fastest face-to-face)
If you've added the card to Apple Wallet (see adding your card to Apple Wallet), you don't need to open the app to share. Double-tap the side button of your iPhone. Wallet pops up. Your QR code is right there. The other person scans it with their phone camera.
This is the lowest-friction option in person. Use it whenever you can.
In-app QR code
If you don't have the pass in Wallet (or you do but want to skip it), the iOS app has its own full-screen QR display.
- Open the app.
- Tap on the card you want to share.
- Tap the QR icon (or Show QR Code).
- The QR code fills the screen. Show it to the other person.
The QR code points to your card's public URL, the same as the one on your Apple Wallet pass.
Share Sheet (link via any app)
For sharing remotely (over Messages, WhatsApp, email, AirDrop, you name it), use the system Share Sheet.
- Open the app.
- Find the card and tap the share icon.
- The iOS Share Sheet opens with every app you can share to: Messages, Mail, WhatsApp, Slack, Telegram, AirDrop, Copy Link, and so on.
- Pick an app. Your card URL is filled in, ready to send.
If you pick AirDrop, the recipient gets the vCard file directly: they tap accept and your contact info lands in their address book. AirDrop works without internet, which makes it the best choice when Wi-Fi is bad. See sharing without internet.
Which to use
- Standing in front of someone: Apple Wallet (or NFC tag, if you have one).
- Across a table or stage: in-app QR code on full-screen.
- Texting or emailing afterward: Share Sheet, pick Messages or Mail.
- Conference Wi-Fi is broken: Share Sheet, pick AirDrop.
